Following our successful Balint weekends in New Zealand over the last nine years, we are now offering another weekend of Balint group work, this time in Christchurch.

This is a call for expressions of interest. The workshop will be limited to 18 people. We hope to have a range of participants, both new to and experienced with Balint group work, medical and other health practitioners, from Christchurch and from further afield.

We envisage an enjoyable and productive weekend, meeting from about 12.30pm to 6.30pm Saturday and 9am to 12.30pm on the Sunday. Much of the time will be spent in one of the two Balint groups, with a variety of health professionals. The workshop also offers the opportunity to meet others involved in Balint group work.

Balint groups offer a form of reflective practice in which clinicians meet to present cases and reflect on the nature of working relationships and problems to help better understand and respond to challenges and difficulties. The purpose of these groups is to help clinicians:


• Recognise they are not alone in having challenging interactions with patients/clients


• Develop increased understanding and empathy


• Explore how feelings and thoughts, sometimes out of awareness, affect the clinical
relationship


• Expand confidence and competence in their work.

Cost: $300.00
- Morning and afternoon teas will be supplied, with dinner at a restaurant on Saturday night
(dinner not included in the cost).
